The Furniture of Torroella de Montgrí and the Empordà

(1700-1800)

curator
Mónica Piera Miquel

The furniture known as “de Torroella” has long been appreciated by those who like well-done work; significant for their beauty and marked by the time of their creation.

These pieces of furniture still have traces of their origins transmitted by oral tradition, often within the families that have preserved them for generations. Although they have received the attention of some appreciable but brief study, the debt of dedicating to them the scientific work that by their quality and importance they deserve was pending.

The Mascort Private Foundation of Torroella de Montgrí, which has among its objectives to support the knowledge of art and the so-called minor arts, has believed that the time has come to contribute that the author, who has well demonstrated his knowledge , a great experience and love of furniture, could dedicate his specialized personal attention and that of an exceptional team, to the realization of this book and of which we can say that we feel satisfied, waiting for the approval of the readers.
